Nose Job / Rhinoplasty

Bespoke rhinoplasty for form and function: expert closed or open nose reshaping to reduce size, smooth dorsal humps, refine tip projection, and optimize breathing.

NOSE JOB / RHINOPLASTY: At a glance

Rhinoplasty is a common operation in our practice. There are many forms of nose job but most patients want the shape of the nose changing in some way. In general reducing the size of the nose, removing any humps on the back of the nose, and changing the shape and position of the tip, are all common requests.

Generally we perform nasal surgery through cuts on the inside only, or sometimes from the outside aswell. These are termed ‘closed or open’ rhinoplasty, but closed rhinoplasty does actually involve cuts hidden on the inside of the nose which give a good view of certain parts of the nose (for example the hump).

This surgery requires a general anaesthetic, and afterwards we apply a moulded cast to keep the nose in a specific shape to encourage optimal healing. Quite often the bones in the nose also need to be broken to effectively change the nasal shape. We also, where needed, can address breathing issues in the nose.

In certain patients Mr Saleh operates with his close colleague in ENT nasal surgery to get the best outcome for the patient. This is particularly true for patients seeking rhinoplasty having had operations before they are unhappy with – this is called revision or secondary rhinoplasty surgery which is more challenging.

frequently asked questions

How long do I need to wear the cast for?

Generally we place a moulded cast on for 1 week and then plasters for a further week. Stitches on the outside are removed after 1 week too.

When will the swelling settle down?

Noses can swell a lot after surgery and it can take around a year in some patients for the final result to be evident. Therefore you have to be patient, particularly if the nasal tip skin is thick. However, for most patients, the major changes in nasal shape can be seen once the cast is removed, but more subtle changes take time to shine through.

When can I socialise after surgery?

Generally most visible bruising settles between 10-14 days and the external scar can be concealed with makeup if needed (not usually). We advise going out is fine during this period but outings such as large social gatherings could expose you to being knocked (e.g nightclub) and the nose being compromised. Most patients can expect to be back working at 2 weeks.
