SKIN CANCER

Mr Saleh works as part of the Specialist skin cancer team in Newcastle, serving the North East of England. This team is composed of many healthcare workers and is aimed at delivering the highest quality of care for patients with skin cancer.

Mr Saleh works in an integrated fashion with specialist dermatologists who are experts in Moh’s surgery, specialist nurses, radiologists, pathologists and fellow plastic surgery specialists who treat patients form across the region.

Skin cancer is the fastest rising, and most common type of cancer in the UK so accurate and timely diagnosis is key.

As part of his sub-speciality training, Mr Saleh worked in one of the busiest skin cancer units in the world in Brisbane Australia. It is here he developed sub-speciality skills in complex facial reconstruction, particularly of the nose and mid-face.

We provide a one-stop clinic where a skin lesion is assessed clinically, using a dermatoscope, a handheld microscope to assess the surface of your skin in detail, and perform a biopsy if needed. He can then advise you on treatment if it is indicated.

In 2017-18 he treated many cases of skin cancer with a 1% incomplete resection rate, a 1% wound infection rate and a 2% revisional reconstructive surgery rate, representing a very high standard of care he and his colleagues provide, well above published rates nationally.

Mr Saleh has a special interest in nasal reconstruction which is often required following injury, accidents and removal of cancers, typically skin cancers. He was fortunate to train in Brisbane Australia, where there is the highest rate of skin cancer worldwide, and he learned advanced techniques in a very high volume work-load, of complex nasal reconstructions. Following this he did further training as the Facial plastic surgery scholar in Vienna, honing these skills in complex nasal surgery.

Currently Mr Saleh receives referrals from across the North of England and elsewhere in the UK. He works collaboratively with a wide team of other surgeons, prosthetists and psychologists to deliver excellent functional and cosmetic results. Having your nose reconstructed is a journey and our practice has the resources and skill base to treat a full range of defects from total loss of the nose to small skin defects.

To arrange an assessment please contact Mr Saleh’s NHS secretary Tracy Longworth on tracy.longworth@nuth.nhs.uk, you will require a referral from your treating doctor or General Practitioner and this can be sent via this email address. Or alternatively to Amy Potter, amy@danielsaleh.co.uk
